The words and lyrics of the old carol 'A Boy Is Born in Bethlehem Lyrics' originated from the Latin hymn, Puer natus in Bethlehem in the 14th Century. The identity of the translator is unknown. The music was arranged by Michael Praetorius (1571-1621).The carol was included in 'Carols Old and Carols New' which was compiled by the American the Rev.

Charles Lewis Hutchins (1838-1920). Charles Lewis Hutchins entered the ministry of the Episcopal church in 1865.The talented German composer Michael Praetorius (1571 - 1621) had been a pupil of Martin Luther and became a Lutheran church composer.

Michael Praetorius is famous for writing the treatise Syntagma Musicum in 1619 in which he compiled vast information on German music.
