Let Earth and Heaven combine

The music of the old Christmas carol 'Let earth and heaven combine' were written by William Henry Havergal (1793-1870). W.H.Havergal was born on January 18, 1793 in Buckinghamshire in England. He was educated at Oxford and ordained in 1817 before starting his life as a Rector at various parishes. Died at Leamington on the 19th April 1870 at 77 years of age. The words and lyrics were written by Charles Wesley (1707-1788). He was the brother of John Wesley and co-founder of Methodism.

He was also a great writer of Hymns, Carols and poems. Educated at Oxford University he joined a group and formed the Methodist movement.

Charles accompanied his brother John to the new colony of Georgia in 1735 where he worked as the secretary of the Governor, General James Oglethorpe. Charles Wesley returned to England in 1736.A selection of Charles Wesley's hymns was first published in 1739 which proved to be immensely popular. Charles married Sarah Gwynne on April 8th 1749 and they were blessed with two sons. He died in London in March 1778.

Our God contracted to a span,

He wrapped Him in our clay;

And bore the mild Immanuel’s Name.

That has the Savior brought;

He deigns in flesh to appear,
